چکیده

The Galería de las Estatuas is a Mousterian site located within the Cueva Mayor-Cueva del Silo karstic system at Sierra Atapuerca (Burgos, Spain). This characterised by an important Upper Pleistocene stratigraphic sequence in which large number of lithic artefacts exhibiting clear affinities and rich assemblage faunal remains have been found. Additionally, this has yielded foot phalanx Neanderthal its sediment mitochondrial nuclear DNA. Two test pits, GE-I GE-II, excavated since 2008 divided 5 2 lithostratigraphical units, respectively. A minimum age 45 ka cal BP for was obtained radiocarbon dating GE-II. chronology refined using single-grain Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL: 80–112 70–79 GE-II) thermally transferred OSL (TT-OSL). Although all case TT-OSL ages were systematically older than their counterparts. detrital sealed flowstone whose base dated to 53.7 ± 3.5 U-series dating. In order better constrain site, nine herbivorous teeth collected from whole sedimentary be ESR/U-series method though only seven provided modelled ages. Six them levels pit while last tooth taken level GE-II pit. Our results, ranging between 80 110 ka, are agreement with those single grain suggest that sedimentological containing human began deposited during second part MIS5. These results fill temporal gap sites no contemporary MIS5 date until recently.

The carnivore remains from the Sima de los Huesos Middle Pleistocene site (Sierra de Atapuerca, Spain).

Remains of carnivores from the Sima de los Huesos site representing at least 158 adult individuals of a primitive (i.e., not very speleoid) form of Ursus deningeri Von Reichenau 1906, have been recovered through the 1995 field season. These new finds extend our knowledge of this group in the Sierra de Atapuerca Middle Pleistocene. Material previously classified as Cuoninae indet, is now assigne...

Non-masticatory uses of anterior teeth of Sima de los Huesos individuals (Sierra de Atapuerca, Spain).

In this study we examine the labial and occlusal surfaces of incisors and canines of hominins recovered from the Sima de los Huesos (SH), middle Pleistocene site, in order to establish the possible extra-masticatory use of anterior teeth. We have compared the microwear of these fossils with microwear from the anterior teeth of Australian Aborigines, a population characterized by ethnographic ev...

On the age of the hominid fossils at the Sima de los Huesos, Sierra de Atapuerca, Spain: paleomagnetic evidence.

We report new paleomagnetic data for the Middle Pleistocene hominid-bearing strata in the Sima de los Huesos, North Spain. Sediments (brown muds with human and bear fossils and the underlying sterile clayey and sandy unit) preserve both normal and reversed magnetic components. The sterile unit has exclusively reversed magnetization, dating back to the Matuyama Chron, and thus is Lower Pleistoce...

Small-mammals from the Middle Pleistocene layers of the Sima del Elefante (Sierra de Atapuerca, Burgos, northwestern Spain)

The Sima del Elefante site, located in the Sierra de Atapuerca (Burgos, Spain), is an important Pleistocene archaeopalaeontological locality that has been excavated every year since 1996. At least two main infill phases have been identified: a first (TELRU) early Pleistocene phase that has provided a rich faunal assemblage, various stone tools and the earliest human remains from western Europe;...
